Marilyn Monroe was wrong. Diamonds are not a girl’s best friend. William Rossi was wrong when he said, “Not diamonds but heels are a girl’s best friend.”
Ask any woman how she feels after walking around in heels for an afternoon and you’ll discover she can’t wait to take off those heels and replace them with a nice warm foot bath, followed by some essential oils and/or lotion and a pair of fuzzy socks. She doesn’t want to look at that pair of heels for at least another week! This is the real reason that women have so many pairs of shoes in their closet; they keep thinking that another pair will feel better tomorrow.
What is it that is a girl’s best friend? It’s insoles! The insoles, also called shoe inserts, are the part of the shoe you step on inside the shoe. Insoles can be removed from shoes at will. Insoles can quickly save the day – and save the woman’s feet from discomfort and possibly even foot pain. The shoe insoles that come with the shoes can’t ever be expected to give you the full comfort your foot deserves and requires. They’re usually paper thin and have no arch support whatsoever.
Even feet with high arches still need support, and a high arch support is a type of shoe inserts that gives this part of the foot the foundation it needs when under stress from wearing high heels. Of course, feet without any arches – called flat feet – still can’t wear the regular shoe inserts that come with shoes. Even the insoles found in athletic shoes, marketed as having great support, may not be good enough for someone with flat feet.
You must replace all shoe inserts with insoles chosen specifically for your feet. Keep it as a general rule in life. This rule may not have been necessary in earlier times when vintage shoes were constructed differently. By assuming that the shoe designer knew all about the needs of your feet prior to creating the shoe and expecting he put in comfortable insoles, and even an arch support, this type of thinking borders a little on the side of crazy! Stephen Bayley, British design critic and author, was quoted as saying this: It is the flagrant lack of practicality that makes high-heeled
shoes so fascinating. He may have also been thinking about the shoe’s appearance and how they alter a woman’s posture quite drastically, considering the insoles inside the shoe and whether or not they had any type of decent arch support.
If you’re a woman who wants to continue wearing high heels, save your feet and change out the insoles. Make sure your shoe inserts have a good arch support. And then limit the amount of time you spend in the high heels to only a few hours tops, such as a dinner date.
